| In the past 12 years, Envy has become a dominant band in the independent hard-core scene in Japan. Their music, through their own evolution, encompasses a sound where intensity and beauty coexists.
Aiming for a style of their own, envy’s music is none other than original to say the least. Stuart from Mogwai described it as “An amazing live band with qualities of both a raging tornado and the calmness after a storm”.
From the beginning, envy has consistently toured Japan and after participating in a few compilations, released their first mini album off of HG. Fact in 1996. envy has been asked to support many artists from overseas on tour in Japan such as ISIS, Converge, Locust, Lighting Bolt and Hot Cross as well as toured throughout the rest of the world on their own.
They have gained great support touring in America, Europe and Asia. envy released a split single EP with American and European bands such as Sixpence, Endeavor, TMK. Since then they have gained great support touring in America and Europe. They met Mogwai around this time and following the release of “A Dead Sinking Story” in 2003, they have signed with Rock Action Records and have since released 3 albums with them.
envy supported them as their opening act for Mogwai’s Japan tour in 2004 and were invited to play at the All Tomorrow’s Festival the following year as well as touring the UK. They have played at festivals in France and Taiwan, and in 2006 played at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.
Their most recent album “Insomniac Doze” was released simultaneously in Japan (Sonzai Records) Europe (Rock action) and the U.S. (Temporary Residence). The band started their own record label, Sonzai Records, in 2002 and has released numerous albums with bands including Hot Cross, Yage, Nice view and The Sun as well as one of their own albums “A Dead Sinking Story” and a number of splits. | |
